Background:

I fell in love with hamsters at a very young age, however I could not get one of my own until I was quite a bit older. My first hamster was a sweet golden banded Syrian hamster named Cody. Unfortunately Cody passed after eight months due to a tumor. Being my first hamster, I was not entirely informed on how to properly care for a hamster. I made all the mistakes that most uninformed first-time hamster owners make, such as keeping the hamster in a small Critter Trail cage, using a hamster ball, and providing very few or unsafe toys. Looking back, I truly could have done just about everything better, which is why I have put together this website; to help inform first time hamster owners or even those who have had experience but are looking to expand their knowledge on proper hamster care. Moving on, my second hamster was the sweetest hamster I have ever met. He was a long-haired solid cream Syrian named Gus. Gus lived for about a year and ten months and passed due to old age. I became serious about research and hamster care during the first few months of Gus's life, I got a cage well above the minimum size limit and began acquiring safe and healthy toys for hamsters because I wanted to assure that my pets had the best care they could possibly have. About a year and a half of owning Gus, I came across an ad on craigslist for a litter of baby Syrian hamsters. I was always looking for places to adopt or get hamsters other than the pet store, and finding breeders online was not a common occurrence. I had never owned multiple hamsters at once, but I did not want to miss the opportunity so I met with the breeder and brought home Willow. Willow was a gorgeous sable banded Syrian hamster who definitely had the most personality out of all my hamsters. I had Willow for exactly two years and one month before she passed of old age. My most recent hamster was a very energetic solid dove Syrian named Owen, whom I got from PetSmart about two months after Willow passed (I would recommend looking for hamsters in shelters or online before going to a pet store). Owen seemed very healthy from the start but after a month, he developed a severe case of wet tail and passed away. I am always on the lookout for available hamsters and am hoping to welcome another one into my home very soon!

Last but not least, I have a gorgeous fox red Labrador Retriever named Apollo. We have had Apollo since he was a pup, and he has certainly not lost his energy the 7 years he's been with us.
